Catch a Wave

Each year, as soon as the weather begins to blow a soft, summer breeze, I find myself dreaming of the ocean. That feeling is more of a longing - a visceral pull towards the shore. When I'm there, I always think of being at the edge of the world... free and ready to sail away!

Coming Up Roses!

This Christmas season, I have been amazed at the amount of rose gold pieces I've been asked to make.

I myself am crazy about rose gold - the color is so gorgeous. 14k rose gold is made using 58% solid gold with the remaining part a percentage of copper and silver. In addition to rose gold, you can find pink gold, which is the lightest in color and has a higher silver ratio to copper, and red gold, which has the most copper alloy with hardly any silver at all.

Here are some of my rose gold designs, all available in my Etsy shop. I can also do them in solid 14k yellow and white gold as well as in sterling silver.

Have a wonderful holiday and a happy new year!

As Time Goes By

It's been a year since I last logged into my blog. As I look at the date of the last post, I can't help but think about this last year and what has happened in my life.

Since this is a design and jewelry blog, I don't want to bum anybody out, so I'll keep it short. My beloved stepfather, who was a real father to me in every way, died January 4, 2013. Last Christmas was the final time I saw him awake. He was a little wobbly from his many health issues, but he was my dad, and he took joy in the time we spent together. For Christmas, I brought him a big bottle of his favorite single malt, and we watched football together, just like we always do. He was so thrilled that, at last, Sol and I were moving to Arizona the following month. As I was leaving, Dad sat on the sofa and held up two fingers and said "two weeks!" with his big beautiful grin.

January 3rd arrived with a frantic call from my mother that dad was in the hospital and the doctors were calling hospice to help. After an emotional night in hospice, he passed peacefully the next morning with Mom, Sol, and me at his side.

This past year found me with my mom nearly all the time. I took her with me to Las Vegas and we packed up our house and came to hers as we tried to work through our profound grief. I put the jewelry business totally aside and focused entirely on her. We spent five weeks overseas and became even closer as we toured the Holy Land, Italy and Greece with Dad never far from our thoughts. Sol was a true gem through the entire process, and definitely wins Husband Of The Year.

It's been nearly a year since Dad died. A couple of months ago, I reopened my two Etsy shops and got back to work doing what I love to do.

Dad was always so proud of me.

I love you Dad.

Home For Christmas

As many of you know, my husband and I are moving from Las Vegas to our new home in Arizona to be with my family while my father is in the hospital following a massive stroke. Thank you friends for your prayers and well wishes, which I always pass on to him.

Since the move is happening over the holidays, both of my shops are closed until mid-January. I just don't have time to spend in the studio right now. Please check back with me in 2013 as I am planning a big re-opening of my Etsy shops complete with ridiculously great discount codes!

Hug the people you love and have a wonderful holiday season!!!

Mars Needs Guitars - part 2

I've made some progress with my Guitars for Autism guitar!

As most of you know, I am obsessed with Our Lady of Guadalupe. She is the patron saint of the Americas, and having lived in San Antonio, Texas for many years, I feel a real connection with her. The story is beautiful, and the original image is gorgeous. You can check out my use of this wonderful saint in my shop, Crazy Daisy ROCKS!

After deciding on the general design of my guitar, I've disassembled it, taken off the front piece and made a larger version from artist's canvas, which I've spent the last week painting my interpretation of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I plan to do some more painting on the guitar's neck and body, but this is the main design for the body. I'm still deciding what to do with the strings...
Nearly finished - needs a bit more tweaking

Leather on Leather

I bought the softest leather cord last week, and I'm having fun playing with it! I'm excited about my Knotty leather rings that I've made with recycled glass beads - the beads are from old glass bottles and then faceted for extra coolness.
